Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como

LikedBeautiful hotel from top to bottom. I love hotels that have a the classic and refined look and feel but with a modern touch. This hotel was furnished excellently while still holding high the story and legacy of the villa. Food at all 3 restaurants we're some of the best i've had. I'd go back just to eat there again. The rooms we're scattered across the hotel but not in a bad way, feels like home, walking on the grass and admiring the views while walking to what feels like your villa. Service was incredible. It's everything you expect a mandarin to be like.

DislikedIf you sleep late or enjoy the hours after midnight, I would reconsider this hotel. There is absolutely nothing going on and the big surprise is that there is no room service after midnight, they don't even have fries after 11pm. They offer a ham and cheese sandwich, that's all. If you are hungry after hours - starve. This is not very mandarin for me. I have stayed in many around the world and this after-hours room service test has always passed but at Lake Como it failed miserably. We also visited all of the beautiful villas around the Lake. After seeing those i felt that the hotel was a very small in comparison to the others. Most of the famous hotel Villas in lake como are huge, 10 times the size of mandarin with the most majestic gardens. I feel like Mandarin tried to make things look that way but it was no comparison.

LikedThe best things about this hotel I would say are the staff and the level of service, their politeness and professionalism is outstanding. Second is the property itself and the level of design of the interiors, the landscape and the amazing floating infinity pool. The rooms are huge, the breakfast and the food is amazing, the property itself is larger than most of the five star hotels in Como. I can't say enough good things about it. Again I say the most important thing in an ultra lux hotel is the staff and how they treat you and in this hotel the staff are exceptional, they try their best to make your stay a great one. The Manager of the the Restaurant Fabio was amazing as wells, the Ladies at the breakfast service, the concierge, the check in and reception team. and the captain of our boat tour Alberto was relaxed, informed and friendly and made our 3 hour boat tour the highlight of our trip . It's one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at.

DislikedThe rectangular small floor opening filled with water like small pools to wash feet before entering the spa and before entering the outside pool area. Any one can fall and it will cause serious injuries. I recommended for it to be closed with glass or plastic covers.

LikedThis hotel was my "White Lotus" experience. Amazing property. We had a duplex suite (their smallest room) in the renovated Villa Roccabruna, a private home converted to hotel suites. The view from the room, its size, amenities, a welcome gift (fans of MO, free registration)...cannot wait to come back!
