18 luxury rainforest resorts and lodges

For a five-star rainforest vacation, the two top-rated choices are Nayara Springs in Costa Rica and Belmond Hotel das Cataratas at Brazil’s Iguaçu Falls. Each holds Three Michelin Keys, the Michelin Guide’s highest hotel distinction. Below them are 16 more rainforest hotels and lodges, from the Daintree in Queensland to the Ecuadorian cloud forest and the Peruvian Amazon.

Every property was checked in October 2026 against its own website and the Michelin Guide’s 2026 Key selection, published on 18 September 2026. The order follows Michelin Key count; within each group the order is our selection.

The 18 rainforest resorts compared

Room counts are from the hotels’ own sites where published, otherwise from the Michelin Guide. Michelin Keys are from guide.michelin.com and Forbes ratings from forbestravelguide.com, both checked 9 October 2026. World’s 50 Best Hotels positions are from the50.com. None of the Michelin hotel pages checked lists a Michelin-starred restaurant at the property. Prices are not shown because rates vary by date and most lodges sell multi-night packages.

Rainforest resorts for families and for adults only

• Two-bedroom or larger units: Silky Oaks (Daintree Pavilion, sleeps four, five with a daybed), El Silencio (Three-Bedroom Villa, up to eight), Copal Tree (Three-Bedroom Family Villa, up to six), Nayara Tented Camp (Family Tent, Grand Tent and two Residences for up to 12), Four Seasons Sayan (Royal Villa, up to nine), The Datai (two-bedroom beach villas and a five-bedroom estate villa), Capella Ubud (Two Bedroom Lodge), Shinta Mani Wild (one two-bedroom tent), Sugar Beach (Two Bedroom Grand Luxury Villas).
• Interconnecting rooms: Mashpi Lodge’s Wayra Rooms connect and take two adults and two children under 12.
• Minimum ages: Pacuare Lodge 7 (rafting 12); Nyungwe Tea Forest Resort 15.
• Adults only: Nayara Springs. Copal Tree’s four Signature Canopy Suites are adults only; the rest of the lodge takes children.

Nayara Springs, Arenal, Costa Rica

• Setting: in Arenal Volcano National Park, according to the Michelin Guide. It shares a spa and restaurants with its sister properties, Nayara Gardens and Nayara Tented Camp, on the same land.
• Rooms: 35 villas. Each Springs Villa is 139 m² (1,500 sq ft) with a plunge pool fed by natural mineral hot springs, a private garden and indoor and outdoor showers. Villa guests have a private host.
• Who it suits: couples. Nayara Springs is adults only.
• Accolades: Three Michelin Keys, one of two Three-Key rainforest resorts in this guide. Forbes Four-Star.

Belmond Hotel das Cataratas, Iguaçu Falls, Brazil

• Setting: the only hotel inside Brazil’s Iguaçu National Park, next to the falls, and beside one of the largest areas of South America’s Atlantic Forest, according to Belmond.
• Rooms: 176 rooms and suites. Signature Suites run from 70 to 164 m² and sleep up to seven.
• Who it suits: families as well as couples, given suites for up to seven.
• Accolades: Three Michelin Keys. Forbes Five-Star. No. 77 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2026 (No. 76 in 2025), the only resort here on the 2026 list.

Silky Oaks Lodge, Daintree, Australia

• Setting: 32 hectares of rainforest above the Mossman River, about 80 minutes’ drive from Cairns and 20 minutes from Port Douglas.
• History: reopened in December 2021 after a $20 million refurbishment by its new owners, Baillie Lodges.
• Rooms: 40 treehouse-style suites, from the 42 m² Rainforest Retreat to the 92 m² Billabong Suite (one of two, with an outdoor fireplace).
• Top suite: the Daintree Pavilion, 323 m² indoors and out, with two bedroom wings, two ensuite bathrooms and an infinity pool. It suits four guests, or five with a daybed.
• Who it suits: couples, and families in the 72 m² Treehouse Premium or the Pavilion.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys. Silky Oaks also appears in our luxury treehouse hotels guide.

Capella Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

• Setting: a tented camp in the rainforest of Keliki, on sloping land down to the Wos River. Capella warns that some tents are on steep terrain.
• Opened: July 2018. Designed by Bill Bensley.
• Rooms: Bensley’s project page gives 22 tents; Michelin counts 23 rooms. There are four one-bedroom tent types, from Keliki Tents with heated private pools to Terrace Tents, plus the Two Bedroom Lodge with a 19 m² heated pool.
• Who it suits: couples; families in the Two Bedroom Lodge.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys. Forbes Four-Star.

Shinta Mani Wild, Cardamom Mountains, Cambodia

• Setting: the South Cardamom National Park, about three hours’ drive from Phnom Penh. The camp funds a Wildlife Alliance ranger team that patrols the forest for poaching and logging.
• Opened: scheduled for 1 November 2018, according to the pre-opening announcement.
• Rooms: 15 tents on elevated platforms along a river, designed by Bill Bensley. At opening there were 14 one-bedroom tents of 100 m² and one two-bedroom tent of 140 m².
• Who it suits: couples; one two-bedroom tent for families. Guests can arrive by zipline.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys, new in 2026.

Keemala, Phuket, Thailand

• Setting: a hillside on the edge of Phuket’s coastal rainforest, above Kamala.
• Opened: around December 2015, per press coverage listed on Keemala’s site.
• Rooms: 38 pool villas in four styles (Clay Pool Cottages, Tent Pool Villas, Tree Pool Houses, Bird’s Nest Pool Villas) plus Spa Sanctuary Villas.
• Top villas: the Bird’s Nest Pool Villa, 185 m² including pool and sun deck, with sea and rainforest views. The two-storey Tree Pool House is 169 m² and takes up to four.
• Who it suits: couples; families of up to four in a Tree Pool House.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys.

Mashpi Lodge, Chocó cloud forest, Ecuador

• Setting: the Mashpi Tayra Reserve in Ecuador’s Andean Chocó region, where the lodge protects 3,200 hectares and has restored 2,284 hectares with native trees. Our 2021 guide gave the reserve as 3,200 acres; the lodge’s figure is in hectares.
• Opened: 2012.
• Rooms: 24, including three Yaku Suites with soaking tubs, for two.
• Who it suits: couples, and families in the interconnecting Wayra Rooms (two adults and two children under 12). A Wawa Room is sold for solo travellers.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys. The Dragonfly, an open-air gondola, runs over the canopy.

Pacuare Lodge, Pacuare River, Costa Rica

• Setting: the Pacuare River valley in central Costa Rica. Guests can arrive by whitewater raft.
• Rooms: 18 suites and villas, from the 62 m² Garden Suite to the 91 m² River View Suite.
• Top villa: the Jaguar Villa, 350 m² (3,767 sq ft), with a spring-fed pool. The Canopy Villa is 230 m². Michelin says both are reached only by a private suspension bridge.
• Who it suits: families with children aged 7 and over (the lodge’s minimum age). The rafting trip requires age 12.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys.

El Silencio Lodge & Spa, Bajos del Toro, Costa Rica

• Setting: a private cloud forest reserve in Costa Rica’s central mountains.
• Rooms: 24 suites and villas: Deluxe Suites, Two-Bedroom Suites, Two-Bedroom Villas and a Three-Bedroom Villa.
• Top villa: the Three-Bedroom Villa, for up to eight guests, with a heated outdoor jet pool, a full kitchen and three bathrooms.
• Who it suits: families and groups. Some wellness classes take children from age 5, others from 10.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys. Forbes Recommended.

Nayara Tented Camp, Arenal, Costa Rica

• Setting: the lower slopes of Arenal Volcano National Park, on stilts above the rainforest, on the same land as Nayara Springs.
• Rooms: 37 tents. The standard Nayara Tent takes two adults and two children.
• Top units: the Family Tent, 265.7 m² (2,860 sq ft): two connected tents sharing a hot-spring-fed pool, for up to six adults or a couple with two children. Two Residences, Casa Paloma and Casa Dana, take up to 12 adults.
• Who it suits: families. Unlike Nayara Springs next door, it takes children.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys.

Nyungwe Tea Forest Resort, Rwanda

• Name change: this was One&Only Nyungwe House in our 2021 guide. It now trades as Nyungwe Tea Forest Resort in Kerzner’s “rare finds” collection; Kerzner says ownership, management and staff are unchanged. Michelin still lists it under the old name.
• Setting: on the Gisakura tea estate at the edge of Nyungwe National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site since September 2023 that UNESCO calls Africa’s largest remaining block of lower montane forest. The drive from Kigali takes about five hours; a helicopter takes 35 minutes.
• Opened: 1 October 2018.
• Rooms: 22. Canopy Treehouses start at 44 m².
• Top unit: the Two-Bedroom Canopy Villa, 131 m², for four guests.
• Who it suits: adults and older teenagers. The minimum age is 15, which is also the minimum age for chimpanzee trekking permits.
• Accolades: Two Michelin Keys (Rwanda’s first Key selection, 2026). Forbes Five-Star. All-inclusive: meals, house drinks and two experiences per person per day.

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan, Indonesia

• Setting: the Ayung River valley near Ubud, about an hour’s drive from Denpasar airport.
• Rooms: 60 suites and villas. Duplex suites are 170 m²; the two-bedroom villas are 760 to 1,320 m².
• Top villa: the Royal Villa, 2,125 m² indoors and out, sleeping up to nine.
• Who it suits: families. Family Suites (216 m²) take two adults and two children under 12.
• Accolades: One Michelin Key. Forbes Five-Star.

The Datai Langkawi, Malaysia

• Setting: the rainforest above Datai Bay, under Mount Machincang. The resort describes the forest as 10 million years old.
• History: opened in 1993, designed by Kerry Hill; renovated in 2017 and 2018.
• Rooms: 121. Canopy Deluxe rooms are 63 m²; Rainforest Villas, on stilts by a stream, are 123 m²; Rainforest Pool Villas are 175 m² with a 7.6-metre pool.
• Top villas: the Two-Bedroom Beach Villa (750 m², private pool, 24-hour butler) and The Datai Estate Villa (3,500 m², five bedrooms).
• Who it suits: families, in the two-bedroom and estate villas.
• Accolades: One Michelin Key. No. 85 on The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2025; not on the 2026 list.
• Why it replaces The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi: our merged 2021 list included the Ritz-Carlton. It is not among Malaysia’s nine Michelin Key hotels; The Datai is.

Lapa Rios, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica

• Setting: a 1,000-acre private rainforest reserve on the Osa Peninsula, near Corcovado. Michelin describes it as Central America’s last surviving lowland tropical rainforest.
• Rooms: 16, including open-air bungalows (80 to 85 m²) and Matapalo Suites (125 m²).
• Top units: four Lapa Villas, 200 m² each, above the canopy with views over the Golfo Dulce. The Brisa Suite is 170 m².
• Accolades: One Michelin Key.

Blancaneaux Lodge, Belize

• Setting: the Mountain Pine Ridge near San Ignacio, where, in Michelin’s words, the gardens “dissolve into wild rainforest”.
• Rooms: 20, including thatched cabanas and Francis Ford Coppola’s own house, which is rented to guests.
• Accolades: One Michelin Key. Forbes lists it as “Soon to be rated”.

Copal Tree Lodge, Belize

• Setting: a sustainable farm near Punta Gorda inside a large rainforest preserve (Michelin gives 15,000 acres), with views down the Rio Grande to the Caribbean.
• Rooms: 17: sixteen suites and a family villa.
• Top units: the four adults-only Signature Canopy Suites share an infinity pool and bar. Booked together as the Executive Canopy Suite they take up to eight adults and four children. The Three-Bedroom Family Villa is 202.3 m² (2,178 sq ft) and sleeps six.
• Who it suits: couples in the Canopy Suites, families in the villa or Jungle Suites.
• Accolades: One Michelin Key.

Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, St Lucia

• Setting: about 100 acres of rainforest between St Lucia’s two Pitons, on the old Jalousie Plantation, according to Michelin.
• Rooms: 130, mostly freestanding villas with plunge pools, plus beachfront bungalows.
• Top units: Two Bedroom Grand Luxury Villas and Two Bedroom Luxury Beachfront Bungalows.
• Who it suits: families. Superior Luxury Villas have a sofa bed for two young children.
• Accolades: One Michelin Key (2026). Forbes Recommended.

Inkaterra Reserva Amazónica, Peru

• Setting: on the Madre de Dios River, in a 17,000-hectare (42,008-acre) private reserve, a 25-minute flight from Cusco. Inkaterra says 540 bird species have been recorded in the grounds.
• Rooms: 35 wooden cabañas, 36 to 38 m².
• Top suite: the Tambopata Suite, 78 m², with a covered terrace and plunge pool.
• Accolades: in the Michelin Guide selection without a Key. It is the only Amazon basin property in this guide, and no Amazon lodge in Peru or Brazil holds a Michelin Key in 2026.

Borneo: no Key-rated rainforest resort

None of Malaysia’s nine Michelin Key hotels is in Borneo. The closest fit we found is Gaya Island Resort, off Kota Kinabalu in Sabah’s Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, whose villas stand above rainforest and mangroves and can be connected for families. It holds no Michelin Key, so it is not in the list above.
