LikedThe hotel is beautifully designed inside and out, and set amongst pine trees. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, the women at the kid's club are lovely and my children wanted to go there all the time (you don't have to book which is great), and it's a nice walk to the beach down a path by a stream (but they offer tuk tuk rides if you prefer). The Eastern Algarve is unspoilt and absolutely beautiful.
DislikedThe family rooms have a sofa bed for the kids which isn't comfortable and if they were any older it wouldn't have been an option. Understandably, due to all the greenery in the outside spaces, the mosquitos are bad and we were bitten a lot every night. The mosquitos there don't buzz so we couldn't find them and our repellant had no effect. The staff said they are much worse in the summer months.
The food and drink prices in the hotel are absurd - 13 euros for an ice lolly says it all. They also add a 23 euro charge for room service which I have never known a hotel to do before. The meal times were tricky for me with two young children as lunch ends at 5:30 and dinner starts at 7pm, and our normal dinner time is between these times.
